Persian Shahnameh Manuscript Leaf – Siyavush Spear Combat with Goruy-e Zereh (Safavid Style)

This illustrated manuscript leaf depicts the episode of Siyavush engaging in spear combat with Goruy-e Zereh, one of the early encounters between Iran and Turan, preceding Siyavush’s exile to the court of Afrasiyab.

At the center of the composition, two mounted warriors confront one another in a dynamic exchange of lances. The youthful and composed figure of Siyavush is shown facing the seasoned Turanian champion, while surrounding riders animate the battlefield.
